Summer in an arts community…it doesn’t get much better than this! Along with nature’s canvas of greenery with touches of floral colors here-and-there, summer arts events are back! Here is a list of notable events to save-the-date for.
Colorado Governor's Art Show & Sale
Occurring soonest on the list, The Colorado Governor’s Art Show & Sale, one of the largest juried fine art shows to exclusively feature Colorado artists, will take place Saturday, May 11 through Sunday, June 9, 2024. Sixty-one Colorado artists will participate in the 33rd annual exhibit, plus the 2024 Legacy Artist, Clyde Aspevig, previously from Loveland.
The show and sale will feature an in-person exhibit at the Loveland Museum (503 N. Lincoln Ave) and both in-person and online fine art sales. The Governor’s Art Show includes sculpture, mixed media, oil, pastel, watercolor, and acrylic paintings from participating artists. Twenty new artists will join the show this year, and several artists have returned after numerous years. Participating Loveland artists include Julie Bender, Ana Maria Botero, Jane DeDecker, Daniel Glanz, Lisa Hewett, Alyson Kincade, Stephan Landis, Rosetta, Elizabeth Rouland, Doug Schneiter, Adam Schultz, Cydney Springer and Ellen Woodbury.
In addition to the chosen artists, the show will feature longtime Loveland resident, now based in Bozeman, Mont., Clyde Aspevig as the 2024 Legacy Artist. This distinction is given to artists who have participated in past years of the Colorado Governor’s Art Show & Sale and have been strong advocates for the arts.
The 2024 show will feature four different works of art from each artist at the Loveland Museum. Most of the artwork in this year’s show is one-of-a-kind and will be available for purchase throughout the run of the Governor’s Art Show & Sale both online and in-person.
Experience the show in person at the Loveland Museum, 503 North Lincoln Avenue, or online at GovernorsArtShow.org. Museum hours are Noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, and the museum is closed on Mondays. The Governor’s Art Show is presented by Loveland and Thompson Valley Rotary Clubs, in conjunction with the Loveland Museum and endorsed by the Governor of Colorado. The Show is truly Art with Heart as net proceeds will benefit Rotary-sponsored charitable projects and causes, including the Thompson Education Foundation’s Resiliency Fund for Unhoused Youth, and scholarships for local art students. The goal of the Thompson Education Foundation’s Fund is to ensure education stability and success by providing support and assistance to students and families in homeless situations. Considered a mecca of international talent, the 40th annual show and sale transforms beloved Benson Sculpture Garden into an art lovers dream come true with over 2,000 sculptures created by 162 artists from around the world for viewing and purchase.
Sculpture in the Park 2024 includes a ticketed Patron Party on Friday, Aug. 9, and a public show and sale on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10 and 11. Tickets for the show and sale may be purchased at the gate for $10 (event entry is free for children age 14 and under).
Artists participating in the show are selected by a jury comprised of experienced sculptors representing different styles and mediums. Returning artists are required to display newly produced work, helping to ensure the annual event feels fresh and unique each year.
